Noise Break-in Assessments

MACH Testing has the necessary experience to carry out all types of noise break-in assessments. We have carried out noise assessments of this type for schools (BB93), offices, and many residential buildings to satisfy planning conditions or to gain BREEAM points.

Noise break-in assessments cover many areas of acoustic testing including PPG24 noise assessments, BREEAM facade assessments and Noise surveys for schools. A noise break-in assessment usually involves measuring the environmental noise on a propose site and calculating the noise ingress into a building whether it be a house, flat, school classroom or office. The calculations can be quite complex and detailed information regarding the buildings ventilation scheme and the building materials used is required to predict the internal noise levels.

Noise break-in assessments can also be carried out within a completed building to assess the suitability of the internal noise levels. This simply involves setting up a microphone in the room and measuring an average noise level over a fixed period of time.

British standards such as BS8233 along with BB93 give design targets for internal noise levels within a variety of buildings and it is these targets which are normally used to determine the suitability of internal noise ingress.
